Stefan Eberstadt 24-hour-piece

For the winter exhibition in the outdoor space of The Economist Plaza at 25 St James Street, Munich-based artist, Stefan Eberstadt will present 24-hour-piece, a seating construction with self-contained lighting positioned in the centre of the plaza. Eberstadt combines ideas of sculpture with architecture and furniture design resulting in works made from ordinary materials such as chipboard and plywood that provide both form and function.

In 24-hour-piece Eberstadt has created a work which in it’s materiality is the antithesis of the marble and limestone plaza but in it’s practicality and generosity mirrors the ideals of it’s architects Peter and Alison Smithson. Other exhibitions include solo exhibitions at the Kunstverein, Ravensburg, Germany in 2002 and Rocket Gallery, London earlier this year.

He is represented by Rocket Gallery, London.

Lothar Gotz Schloß Schachen

Within the foyer at the Economist Tower Lothar Gotz will present Schloß Schachen, an installation of vinyl on the windows.

The title, Schloß Schachen, refers to a small castle in the mountains of Upper Bavaria, commissioned by the Bavarian King Ludwig II in 1870. The castle is a plain wooden house from the outside but the first floor is an amazing fantasy world of Arabian colours, stained glass windows and eccentric decoration.  Gotz’s installation of coloured vinyl stripes for the Economist windows refers to the upper saloon of Schachen and aims to recreate the fantasy atmosphere of the castle.

This installation has been made possible by the generous support of Mactac vinyl suppliers.
