For the summer exhibition in the outdoor space of The Economist Plaza at 25 St James’s Street, Peter Fillingham will present Untitled 2004, an installation of a variety of multi-coloured ribbons suspended across the plaza space.

The Plaza space will appear either to be in preparation for, or in the aftermath of, a traditional village fete devoid of home-made lemonade, a raffle or cake stand.  Bringing rural Britain into the Smithson’s’ modernist landscape, Fillingham questions the urbanisation of culture. Fillingham has exhibited widely, most recently as part of Sharjah International Biennial 6.

Within the foyer of the Economist Tower, Denise Kum will exhibit Fondant, an installation of 'toxic blobs' leaking across the floor and down the walls. Kum has a long-standing fascination with materiality.  Working with a variety of substances from petrolatum to foodstuffs, she creates a colourful toxic swamp somewhere between liquid and solid. Creeping down the marble walls and spreading across the floor of The Economist foyer, Kum’s installation invokes a lurking menace.

Kum has an extensive exhibition history, including solo exhibitions at CBD Gallery, Sydney, Teststrip, Auckland and Experimental Art Foundation, Adelaide as well as group exhibitions in Rooseum, Malmo, Sweden; Cell Project Space, London and China Art Objects, Los Angeles.
